Mathematics!

Some of the Reception children were challenged to firstly make a repeating pattern using their bodies. The children chose to make the pattern ‘star, ball, star, ball, star’. They then informed me that the star shapes are ‘tall’ whereas the ball shapes are ‘small’ – wonderful mathematical language!

I then challenged them to get into height order – this was challenging but with lots of fantastic team work they did it! They decided who was the ‘tallest’ and who was the ‘shortest’.

The children then had fun drawing around each other onto a roll of wallpaper. They cut their ‘twins’ out and then placed them in height order. Wonderful team work Reception.

Mathematics!

We made some 2D shape, repeating patterns using our glitter and sequin play dough, along with some long coloured lollipop sticks and some short coloured match sticks! They looked fantastic!

Mathematics!

Today we have been learning all about repeating patterns. We had fun in the shaving foam, describing different 2D shape patterns and making our own patterns! We remembered that 2D shapes are ‘flat’.

We thought about using different size shapes and different coloured shapes to create our own patterns! Take a look at what we created!

Literacy – Paddington Bear Project

Today we read the story of Paddington Bear and had a lovely discussion about the book, thinking carefully about:

  • How did he get his name?
  • Where did he come from?
  • How do you think he felt alone at the train station?
  • How do you think he felt when Mr & Mrs Brown took him home?

After a lengthy discussion we had a think about what we would write on Paddington Bears tag. We thought of some lovely ideas such as:

‘Give Paddington a lovely home’

‘Give Paddington a family’

‘Make Paddington Bear some sandwiches’

We made Paddington Bear some new tags using our fantastic ideas. When writing out the tags we were sure to sit our letters on the lines, carefully forming them. We remembered our three rules when sentence writing – capital letters, fingers spaces and a full stop at the end and we applied our phonic knowledge well to help spell unfamiliar words. Paddington’s new tags look wonderful!

Paddington Bear will be coming to visit us soon in class 1 and we will get the chance to take him home to spend a night in our homes. We will have to look after him and any exciting things we get up to will be recorded into his special diary!

Gardening Club!

During gardening club this week we continued to look at physical development. Our special friends from year 6 helped us to rake and dig the soil, using different tools safely and making sure we held them correctly.

We also had a go at decorating different strips of material, which we then weaved into our large wooden frame. They look fantastic and really help brighten up copse corner. We made some beautiful repeating patterns using sequins on the material… take a look at some of our photographs!
